Littleton’s poor get the money.
That’s the plan.
“But how?” you (might) ask, Gary.
I think the easiest and fairest way to select who will receive the $10,000.00 checks, which SAGA Cannabis will hand out as the obscene profits on cannabis come rolling in, will be by qualifying lottery.
Qualifying = any household in 01460 where the people who live there participate in any of the following anti-poverty, means-tested programs:
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly Food Stamps
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (Fuel Assistance)
- MassHealth Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
- MassHealth/Medicaid
- School Breakfast and Lunch Program
- Special Milk Program (SMP)
- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)
- Summer Food Service (SFSP)
- Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children
- Unemployment Insurance
- Weatherization Assistance
You see, Gary, even though the commonwealth has all these programs to alleviate the needless suffering that comes from daily, grinding poverty, 6.3% of Littleton households still live below the poverty line.
You can be part of the change, Gary, if you’re the sort of leader who wants to see that number reduced to 0.0%.
You only need to ask yourself, “Is this radical idea worth a try?”
