So, while it does look like Littleton might be paying for the same information twice, i.e., Town Counsel telling the Select Board what it can do “legally” vis a vis its HCAs, there will also be a discussion about the Cannabis Control Commission’s new-and-improved Social Equity Policy.
This is great news.
If the Select Board awarded an HCA to a recreational cannabis shop that met the requirements of a “social equity applicant,” then Littleton would receive the equivalent of 1% of that shop’s sales as a gift to the town—a thank you from the commonwealth for participating in a program that promotes social equity.
Or at least that’s how I’m reading this:

While the ultimate goal (for me and others) is to abolish local poverty, SAGA Cannabis will do whatever it takes to be a viable Social Equity applicant.
Why?
Because it’s free cash.
A gift to Littleton.
Let’s say SAGA Cannabis had $5,000,000.00 in gross sales, Littleton would get $50,000.00 from the Social Equity Fund.
That “thank you” money would come to Littleton on top of the 3% excise tax that SAGA Cannabis would collect for the town.
I sure hope tomorrow night—when updating the Select Board—our Town Counsel points out this brand-new financial benefit that Littleton could reap by having one of its two recreational cannabis shops participate in this program.
Getting paid to be good.
Priceless,
Jenna
Finally getting somewhere…I hope.
