Here’s Where I Get Off, Littleton

Spring Town Meeting is not on Monday. This year, we’re holding it on Tuesday, and depending on “how things go,” Littletonians might be asked to come back on Wednesday night.

I won’t be there. Either night.

Wednesday is my 25th wedding anniversary, and Rob and I are going away in an hour, for a week—a plan that, in some ways, was made 24 years and 361 days ago.

I’ll be back on Election Day, eager to see how this all plays out.

This past year of thinking and observing the dynamics in this small town—through the lens of poverty and power and influence and money—has been fascinating to me. I hope that if you took the time to read my thoughts and observations that you feel like this was time well spent and that you enjoyed engaging in that “conversation” with me: between writer and reader.

I want to leave you these last thoughts:

Rare in life do we have a real opportunity to make a meaningful difference. I believe in this idea of ending local poverty. After a year of reading about this topic, I know Littleton can end poverty here.

But Littleton, you’re going to have to show up and vote for it.

Vote for the idea, which, for the record, is more than merely changing “who gets to be a millionaire” in town vis a vis licenses to sell cannabis/alcohol. While I’m a single-issue candidate, poverty is a multi-faceted issue for which I have lots of ideas, not the least of which is housing.

Join me in this effort.

Go into the ballot booth on the 11th and do something interesting: vote for an atypical idea for this our little town,

Jenna
